Outsider Art Festival (OAF) film screenings present a wide-ranging selection of Finnish outsider cinema from Helsinki, Finland. The film screenings present the short films: Pixel Party Extravaganza (Petri Keckman), Two Silly Rabbits And a Ball (Kanimaattorit), Breathing reef (Satu & Maima Tani), Into (Aleksi Leskinen) FUR FUR (Kardo Shiwan) and Shadows (Vahid Goodarzpour).

OPENING EVENT: Celebrating 8 Years of Outsider Art in Vancouver

Join us to celebrate the opening of the 8th Annual Vancouver Outsider Arts Festival—an event that’s free and open to the community, inviting everyone to come together and celebrate this year’s exceptional artists!
Attendees will be able to have a sneak-peek of over 400 artworks on display in the exhibition hall, before moving into the theatre for talks, and performances by Terreane Derrick and M’Girl Music. The evening will be welcomed by Tsitsayxemaat aka Rebecca Duncan and hosted by Laura Fukumoto.
The grand opening event is not just a celebration; it’s an invitation to step outside the confines of convention and embrace the unfiltered beauty of artistic diversity. Photo Walk with Cole Schmidt

The VOAF Photowalk will be a guided excursion into the parks and streets near the Roundhouse Community Centre. Cole Schmidt, the workshop facilitator, will lead the group to predetermined points of interest where participants can practice their photography in the company of other image-makers. This will be a great opportunity to socialize with local photographers and get some tips from Cole or other participants. All skill-levels are welcome!

Cyanotype Workshop

This workshop offers a delightful and immersive experience, where you’ll uncover the secrets of cyanotype—a photographic printing technique renowned for its creation of enchanting blue and white images using light-sensitive chemicals. Through hands-on exploration with the help of facilitator, Hazel Yuhang Zhang, you’ll gain a deep understanding of this mesmerizing art form, as you create your own stunning cyanotype prints.

Urban Sketching Workshop

Join Ania Salmina, artist and educator, for a fun, on-the-go urban sketching experience at Roundhouse and the Engine 374 Pavilion!
Depending on the weather, we’ll sketch either indoors or outdoors, capturing live scenes from various angles. We’ll focus on perspective, textures, architectural details, and the vibrant activity around us.
Feel free to bring your favorite colors—markers, watercolors, colored pencils, etc. Please bring a sketchbook or sturdy surface to draw on (such as a board or book).
