Anoop Dhaliwal

Anoop Dhaliwal (she/her) is an interdisciplinary visual artist and graphic designer. Dhaliwal’s practice is predominantly in photography (analog + digital), video, dynamic media, printmaking, painting, and illustration. Her artistic approach embraces traditional art practices, digital art practices, and their intersections. Her artistic expression includes topics such as spirituality, the Universe, sacred geometry, nature, mindfulness, and identities. Anoop’s personal experiences along with her educational and professional experiences intersect to inform her artist approach and expression. 

Dhaliwal resides and creates in so-called British Columbia, Canada. She earned a BA (sociology + psychology) with Distinctions from the University of Alberta in 2006. She is currently in her 4th years pursuing a BFA (visual arts + graphic design) at the University of the Fraser Valley. Anoop is the recipient of several art awards including the Evangelos Apostolides Endowment Scholarship in Photography (2021, 2020), the Jim and Patty Michaud Annual Scholarship in the Creative Arts (2020, 2019), and the Black Press Lower Mainland Endowment Scholarship (2019). Her work Save the Earth: Local. Global. Balance.(2020) placed first in UFV’s 6th Bi-annual Poster Competition and will be showcased at this year’s VOAF. 

As an active community member, she believes arts engagement enriches community development. Presently, she serves as the Vice President for the Abbotsford Arts Council (AAC). In 2022, Anoop was a Co-Creative Director for Jam in Jubilee, a concert series and art market in so-called Abbotsford, BC.
